CLIVE LLOYD PRAISES SACHIN TENDULKAR'S CAREER

Former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd said here on Monday that Sachin Tendulkar’s records will be difficult to break.

“Sachin started at 17 and played for 24 years. I don’t think anyone can play for these many years in the current era,” said the 69-year-old Lloyd. He described Tendulkar as a great ambassador of the game.

Lloyd, in the city to visit the Blades of Glory cricket museum, was disappointed by the way the Darren Sammy-led side succumbed meekly in the two-Test farewell series.

“It was not very good. We (Indies) had India for 83/5 in the first Test, but didn’t have the bowlers to put more pressure. This team doesn’t have the right kind of balance. They need to improve in all aspects of the game.”

For Lloyd, Test cricket is not just a game. It is a test for every player. “Test cricket is an examination. That’s how it should be treated,” he said.

He refused to blame Twenty20 cricket for influencing the results in the longer format of the game.
“Anything that brings crowd to watch cricket is good. It’s just that the players need to be taught the basics of the game at an early stage,” Lloyd said.
