Music director M.M. Srilekha, who
has composed the theme song for the Kerala Blasters football team owned by
Sachin Tendulkar, says, “The team’s management asked me to compose a song for
the team. I sent two tunes for their approval.”
“They had asked about 20 to 25 music
directors for the song and there were some noted personalities among
them. But finally they selected my tune,” she says. In the Malayalam song,
Srilekha has mixed a bit of Tamil culture and Malayalam folk.
The male part of the song has been
sung by Kalabhavan Mani. “He was busy with films in Chen-nai, but on my
request, he sang for us,” says Srilekha, who sang the female part. On
Monday, Sachin unveiled the jersey of the team along with the theme song.
Srilekha attended the event and also met Sachin.
“He is a very humble and a
down-to-earth person,” she says. In her speech she said that while Sachin had
scored century after century in cricket, she herself is nearing a century in
films as a music director.
“He wished that I would complete my
100 films as music director very soon,” says Srilekha, who has completed 75
films as music director in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Srilekha
started off as a music director and singer at a very young age. She is the sister
of music director M.M. Keeravani and is director S.S. Rajamouli’s cousin.
