cricket, “Sachin Tendulkar” will
arrive in Dhaka on Tuesday (Oct 14) for a daylong trip to unveil the logo of a
newly named club of Dhaka Premier
Division Cricket League.
Indian batting sensation Sachin, who is coming to Bangladesh for the first time after ending his colourful career, will unveil the logo of the Dhaka Premier League champions Gazi Tank Cricketers who will take part in this year’s league under a new name, ‘Legend of Rupganj’.
The owner of Gazi Tank Cricketers, Lutfar Rahman Badal, took the initiative to bring Tendulkar to Dhaka in a bid to create hype and cricket frenzy after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) approved the application to change the name of Gazi Tank Cricketers as ‘Legend of Rupganj’.
The name ‘Legend of Rupganj’ will come into effect from the current season in place of Gazi Tank Cricketers.
Tendulkar, who reached the historical milestone of ‘Hundredth Ton’ in Dhaka in 2012 Asia Cup Cricket, will reportedly come to Dhaka by a chartered plane from Guwahati and will return to Mumbai by the same plane after his daylong program here.
Sachin is likely to spend some moments with school students of the capital city as part of the UNICEF program.
Two years ago, sports organizer Lutfar Rahman Badal bought the ownership of Gazi Tank Cricketers which became champions in the premier league last year.
Badal later appealed to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) via Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) to change his club’s name to ‘Legend of Rupganj’.
