SACHIN TENDULKAR SET TO AWARD WINNERS OF MUMBAI INDIANS GEN-X CHALLENGERS

Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is set to present the award to a unique simulator based inter-school cricket tournament — powered by Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA).

Smaaash, an interactive gaming arena, in association with Mumbai Indians (MI), is playing host to the cricket tournament.

Students in large numbers were seen enjoying the experience of this first-of-its-kind cricket competition, and sharpening their cricketing skills as they vie for the trophy, to be presented by Tendulkar. Over 45 schools across Mumbai are participating in the competition.

In the Under-14 category, Al Barkaat School is leading with 152 runs followed by St. Anne's High School with 128 runs. In Under-16 category, IES VN Sule lead the way with 128 runs with Dhrirubhai Ambani School in close contention on 125 runs. Top 16 schools from both categories advance to the knock-out round, which will start from October.

The cricket competition is aimed at providing an opportunity to the school teams to test their batting skills while facing international bowlers through virtual [computerized] screen. The competition is planned to help the participating school teams to prepare ahead of the forthcoming MI-MSSA’s inter-school Giles Shield and Harris Shield tournaments.

Fr. Jude Rodriguez, President of MSSA, said, “Our association with Mumbai Indians and now being extended with Smaaash will go a long way in helping our students in testing their skills in this fun-filled and cozy environment, though competition, like any other sporting activity, will be pretty stiff.”
