Sourav Ganguly the former India captain has said that the
Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) scheduling the West Indies Test
series for Sachin Tendulkar 200th Test is a fair move. He also believes that it
is not going to be Tendulkar’s last series. Ganguly's view comes a day after
Tendulkar confirmed that he has no immediate plans of retiring.
Speaking on the television channel Star Ananda, Ganguly said that such a milestone is huge, but for a man of the stature of Tendulkar, it doesn’t really matter. He also said that if the BCCI has taken the decision keeping Tendulkar’s impending milestone in mind, then it is a good call.
The former Indian skipper requested Tendulkar to announce his retirement in advance, if it is now or later. That would allow him to play more freely and the fans should also enjoy watching him play.
"It would be the biggest thing if Tendulkar gets to play the 200th Test in Mumbai purely on emotional grounds. He has all his friends and family members there," Ganguly said.
"At this moment, it seems it would be impossible for anybody to break the record of playing 200th Tests. It would be fulfilling moment for him," he added.
"Hope we all would be there. It would be a treat to watch Sachin take guard for his 200th Test. This moment would not come again, Sachin should enjoy the moment fully,"
On the decision of whether Tendulkar should tour South Africa, Ganguly stated that it's better to wait and watch rather than give up on such a big player.
Earlier, Tendulkar had played down the hype over the occasion. "I like to make one step at a time. I have been playing for the last 23 years and I have never thought of all this [reaching milestones]. I don't like taking things for granted. When I reach there then we can talk about it," he said.
"I don't think at this stage I need to do that. Where is the rush. I have this formula, don't jump forward, this is how I have approached my career," he further added in an interview to Zee News.
According to previous schedule, Tendulkar was supposed to play his 200th Test in South Africa, but the West Indies tour allows the maestro to reach the milestone in front of his fans at home.
