Mumbai: The idea of retelling Sachin Tendulkar’s
story on large screen has often interested film-makers, and the
intriguing prospect may soon see light of day, thanks to director Hansal
Mehta.
Mehta, who’s last directorial venture, ‘Shahid’, was a biopic on
slain lawyer Shahid Azmi, will narrate Sachin’s story through the eyes
of his mentor and elder brother Ajit. Known to be a fiercely shy and
private person, Ajit’s contribution to Sachin’s career has, for long,
been one of the more enduring folklore of Indian cricket.
Speaking to a local daily, a source said that the project is still
in nascent stage, and Mehta is learned to be in talks with a leading
studio about it. The director is yet to meet Ajit.
Mehta plans to start shooting his next, City Lights, soon but will develop the idea simultaneously.
When contacted, Hansal confirmed the news but added the idea is still “at a premature stage.”
The film is not a biopic on Sachin, but will on Ajit who has always
remained out of the headlines. Hansal plans to focus on Ajit’s highs
and lows as he sees Sachin grow into a world renowned icon, the source
added.
