Speaking to the media in Mumbai on
Friday, Indian captain for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, Virat Kohli said
his superhero for his life is none other than Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
Virat Kohli is all set to become the
face of Max Steel, a property of global toy brand Mattel. At the event, where
Kohli was unveiled as a brand ambassador of Max Steel, the cricketer said his
superhero had always been Tendulkar and it would be always be Tendulkar for his
life.
In Kohli’s life, it was Sachin who
had inspired him immensely. He said just watching him play for India, he used
to dream of winning games for India, because he used to do it single handed.
Kohli just had a vision and got a chance to play with him and do something like
that. Sachin had been Kohli’s superhero and he would be for his lifetime, he
added.
The 24-year-old is leading Team
India for the forthcoming 5 ODIs against Zimbabwe starting Wednesday. At the
event, he talked about ‘heroes and villains’ in cricket. He said in cricket, a
hero is a person who respects the game and does not corrupt the game. The one
who corrupts the game is the villain. The Delhi player said that they should be
punished and they had been punished in the past.
Virat Kohli has played 108 ODIs and
also featured in the 2011 World Cup winning squad led by Dhoni. He said he
liked to lead from the front and set an example to others.
India are to play against Zimbabwe
in a five ODI match series from July 24 to August 3. The squad is without
skipper Dhoni, R Ashwin, Bhuvaneshwar
Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma.
So, the forthcoming series in
Zimbabwe is a test for Kohli as a leader of a young pack of talented
cricketers.
