Sachin Tendulkar
is in for a unique experience as he readies for his final bow. The
batting maestro will not stay in a five star hotel as he tours this
sleepy Haryana village to play his last Ranji Trophy match. He
will stay at the Tilyar Tourist Complex, run by the Haryana Tourism
Corporation Limited (HTCL), about 13 km from the stadium on the Delhi
bypass
Sources in the district administration said 12 rooms were booked here for the Mumbai team from October 25 to November 1, about two months ago.
Renovation of these rooms -- white-washing, putting up new curtains and landscaping -- was on a war footing on Thursday. Haryana Cricket Association (HCA) officials and the local police, however, refused to confirm.
"A VIP chief minister's suite has been booked for Sachin Tendulkar. Local police have already done a recce and made security checks of the complex and especially of the suite. We are expecting Sachin to arrive here by Friday evening. Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda had also stayed in the same suite on Wednesday for a couple of hours," a senior tourism official told TOI, requesting anonymity.
"Besides, six to seven rooms are also booked for the Mumbai team at another hotel. The Circuit House on Delhi bypass is also kept ready as a stand-by," the official said.
High security at the stadium
Meanwhile, tempers are frayed over HCA's decision to keep over 2600 seats in the stadium vacant following security concerns. "The capacity of the stadium is 8,000. We have decided to keep over 2,600 seats on a side stand vacant for security. As this is the side from where players would enter the stadium, we do not wish to take any chance on security front," said HCA secretary Anirudh Chaudhary.
